A first service is done for someone who:
- Is an Alberta resident applying for a drivers licence or Identification card for the first time.
- The licence is expired for more than 6 months.
- Is coming from Out of Country or Out of Province and applying for a new licence with driving history from that province or country.
Or
- Your coming from out of country or out of province and applying for a licence for the first time and have never had a drivers licence.
Renewal
- Renewing an Alberta driver’s licence that has not been expired for more than six months.
- Extending the expiry date in conjunction with one of the following operator services: Change of address, change of name, Upgrading and/or replacing your licence.
- Surrendering a non-Alberta driver’s licence and who previously held an Alberta driver’s licence that has been expired for six months or less.
Reclass
An operator reclassification service is used to change the licence class of a driver’s licence.
When your driver’s licence has been expired for 3 years or more, you must complete a vision screening, knowledge and road test.
